“Home from Home”
Nestled in the Italian and Swiss Alps, Lake Maggiore is one of those “straight out of a fairytale” places Italy is righteously famous for. The serene hills and majestic peaks surrounding the lake protect it from the northern winds and make for a pleasant climate for most of the year.
The beauty of these magical shores has inspired generations of artists, poets, and thinkers. Gustave Flaubert, Stendhal, and Ernest Hemingway were just some of the many who fell in love with the unparalleled scenery, a sight so outstanding that Lake Maggiore has often been referred to as the most beautiful lake in the world. We agree with this assessment and surely so will you after visiting this magnificent gift of nature. It is not easy to list everything that makes Lake Maggiore such a great destination for your wedding, but we want to try!
Lake Maggiore Wedding
Lake Maggiore is blessed with rare naturalistic beauty, with its luxuriant vegetation and flora, its crystalline waters, and most romantic parks. The lake hosts an archipelago of small but mesmerizing islets, the Borromean Islands, among which the most famous is quite probably the aptly named Isola Bella (the beautiful island).
The area is also famous for a rich culinary tradition and a significant historical and archeological heritage. The peaks surrounding the lake are interspersed with astonishing architectural creations. You will find villas, 18th century palazzos, and even proper castles like the Rocca of Arona. We told you would be living in a fairytale!
Apart from the obvious architectural beauty, Lake Maggiore is also a deeply spiritual location, with its sanctuaries and monasteries, like the Eremo of Santa Caterina and the Santuario della Madonna del Sasso. And let’s not forget the charming villages and burgs all around the lake, such as Stresa and Verbania. Everywhere you turn, you will find something spectacular, it is not by chance, in fact, that basically the entire region was inscribed into UNESCO’s World Heritage Site List.
Lake Maggiore has also a name as a sport destination. You will be able to play golf, discover one of the many scenic hiking trails, learn sailing or waterskiing, and even try scuba diving. Are you the pensive type? No problem! You can attend a writing retreat or discover local art galleries and ateliers.
In other words, in Lake Maggiore there is plenty to see, do, and eat before and after your wedding! Ask us about the available wedding packages in the area, we are certain we have just what you are looking for.
